DRIVING DIRECTION:

There are only two main North-South highways on the east side of Vancouver Island – 19 (The Inland Island Highway – the new highway) and 19A (The Island Highway –the old highway). 19 is the main highway, it is newer and faster; and the 19A is the scenic route also known as the Oceanside Route, it is older and slower. If you want to arrive sooner and faster, you should take highway 19; however, if you need gas, food, and etc., you should take highway 19A instead.

After you get off the ferry either from Departure Bay or Duke Point, you will be in the city of Nanaimo, which is about 45 km south of Qualicum Beach. Simply follow the freeway signs to either 19 or 19A North, it will lead you to Qualicum Beach – it doesn’t matter which freeway you take after the ferry, 19 and 19A will merge after the city centre of Nanaimo.

SCENIC ROUTE THROUGH TOWN OF QUALICUM BEACH ON 19A:

You will need to drive about 30 km before you see the Exit 60 – Qualicum Beach, simply follow the sign and exit on your right and turn right (east) into the city of Qualicum Beach. The road will become Memorial Avenue and it will lead you through the city centre of Qualicum Beach, follow the street all the way until you hit the ocean – literally, then turn left on 19A (The Island Highway). Hint: you should see a Shell Gas station at the corner of Memorial Ave. and 19A.

Then you will need to drive another 10 - 11 km before you see a BIG sign of Arrowsmith Golf Course on your left, pass the sign and the railroad, continue to drive another 1 - 2 km, you will come upon a 50 km speed limit sharp curve, make a right turn at the first turn off right after the curve, it is the Van Isle Road. Hint: if you see the house sign of 5355 or greater number, then you have missed the turn off. Second Lot on the right is 2700 Van Isle Road – the two stories white house.
